we knew kingston would be a tough match for us today having lost to them at their place by 2 early in the season. we had to bring our A game & get a good start
from the opening tip we looked a step slow & kingston took advantage of us. for once we had a bigger line up but we couldn't manage to get the ball inside! kingston scrambled very well on D & took it to us on offense! we fell behind 18-15 after the first 10 minutes. we needed to step up!
we made changes going into the 2nd quarter & changed up our defense. kingston still couldn't be slowed down. we were off the pace & falling behind. we subbed & rotated but couldn't find a spark! louis harris scored 13 points in the 2nd but again we were outscored 25-23 in the period. we were down 43-38 at the half.
at the half we spoke about what we needed to do to get back into the game. we had to stop the ball as kingston were running us off the court & we needed to rebound & push it back at them.
as the 3rd quarter started we looked a lot better on D! we got the ball out of their hands & tried to push it back at them. a 3 pointer from richard bell closed the gap but kingston then stepped it up & took over. we were again outscored, this time 26-17! finding ourselves down 14 points 69-55!
heading into the final stanza i told the guys to play full court & scramble to get the ball back. we started well & stopped the ball on D turning it into fast break scores for us. jack ryan hit the boards well & finished the put backs. we were on the come-back but were always chasing the game! kingston kept a cool head & the closest we came was 6 points! we had played better in the 4th & had outscored kingston 25-19 but the great effort hadn't been enough! the final score was 88-80 to kingston! who had played the better basketball on the day, hats off to the better team.
a sad way to end our competitive season but many positives can be taken from our performance.
