having been drawn againts the undefeated bhasvic team we knew we were up for a very tough opening round. we have played bhasvic before & knew what to expect, tough full court pressure & smart team offense.
as the game tipped off we looked slow & bhasvic punished us. as we thought they showed a full court press & we played right into their trap! we were outscored 18-7 in the opening ten minutes just the bad start we talked about not having! again we were in a hole againts a very good team. (louis harris had 5 points & ian marshall the other 2)
the 2nd quarter started & we attacked another 2 scores from louis & ian! but we couldn't contain bhasvic & we traded hoops! we needed stops & we couldn't find a spark. again we were outscored in the period, this time 19-13 all points again coming from ian marshall & louis harris bar a lay in from josh mountifield. we were down 37-20 at the half!
at halftime we spoke about speeding bhasvic up & getting them out of their sets as they had done to us! we had to step up to get back into the game!
the 3rd quarter started & again we traded hoops. ian marshall fought hard & scored 10 points in the quarter. we just couldn't string together enough defensive stops. we had some great effort on ball from lucy uncles & matt sharp & we did outscore bhasvic 18-16 in the 3rd but still found ourselves down 53-38 heading into the final stanza!
heading into the 4th i told the guys to throw everything at them, we had to pressure them full court to make something change
we started well, mutalib habib & gio corpuz used their speed to annoy the bhasvic guards & we came up with a couple of great stops & quick scores! sadly the closest we got it back to was a 10 point game (65-55) bhasvic kept their heads & beat our press! lucy unles hit back to back jump shots to keep our score ticking over & again we outscored them in the quarter 24-22 but the damage had been done in the opening period & it was too big a gap to close! the final score was 75-62 to bhasvic. hats off to a better team on the day, i'm sure they will be eventual play off winners!
