Worthing College XV 82 v Itchin College IXV 5

With late cancellations and a week of friendlies Worthing fielded two squads of equal strength in this afternoons fixtures. With 45 fit players to select from it was important to ensure game time for all squad members in what was the final Wednesday afternoon of a very frustrating half term. The home fixture played at Worthing Leisure Centre saw Worthing run out comfortable winners against Itchin in what was the first fixture between the two colleges. The game was physical however Worthing’s structure and commitment to keep the ball alive resulted in some excellent scores from all areas of the field. In fact the best rugby from Worthing was shown during a set play from a lineout where forwards and backs inter link from one side of the field to the other and had the final pass gone to hand it would have been the highlight of the afternoon. A number of players who have spent most of the season within the IIXV shone well showing that the foundations are looking good for 2010/11.

The Worthing try scorers were Harcus, Birch, Goldsmith, Roberts, Bush, Ball, Frost, Dowglass, Brown, Bone, Double and Green. Kicking duties were down to Hills and Double who kicked well. The squad now look forward to the final push with big games coming up in the county cup, BCS elite cup and the Sussex league.
