we have had great battles with west kent in the past so we were looking forward to a tough game today. west kent are very well coached very structured & athletic we had to play hard for 40 minutes to get the win
we had worked all week on a guard press defense so from the tip we came out full court & put the pressure on!
we jumped out the blocks & raced to a 13-2 lead louis harris connecting from inside & outside, our defense was awesome & set the tone of the game. matt sharp & lucy uncles came on & really stepped up the pressure. west kent were rattled & coughed up the ball & we punished them outscoring them 25-9 in the opening 10 minutes. a great start!
the second quarter started & we again locked up on 'd', matt sharp was all over the guards turning them inside out. we found our outside shot & hit 4 3 pointers, 2 from matt sharp, 1 from louis harris & 1 from ollie hunt off our bench! west kent kept plugging away though & found some success under our hoop with some offensive rebound put backs. we again outscored west kent this time 21-18 making the score going into the half 46-27
we had started really well at both ends. our defense was working hard & we had frustrated west kent we had to keep the pressure on them.
as the 3rd quarter started west kent opened the scoring & looked focused on the comeback. but scores from ian marshall & louis harris answered west kent's efforts. but on the back of a big 3 pointer west kent rallied & seemed to regain some momentum. we made some changes & matt sharp stepped up in the closing minutes of the 3rd to score 2 swift lay ins & a deep 3 pointer to give us a 61-43 lead heading into the final stanza ( we had been outscored by west kent 16-15 in the period )
as the 4th & final quarter started west kent went on a 7 point run. we answered with scores from jack ryan & ian marshall. west kent kept coming & again connected from 3 point range, they were hanging around trying to get back into the game. a jump shot from lucy uncles & free throws from louis harris kept our score board ticking over & us the advantage. as time ran down we kept our cool & stayed ahead closing out the game for a 72-62 win! we had been outscored in the 4th 19-11 but the early hard worked had paid off & given us a much deserved victory
