Brockenhurst 43 Worthing Netball 1st 26 BCS Cup

On a wet, cold Wednesday the netball 1st team traveled to the New Forest to play probably one of the best teams at U19 in the country. It was an educational experience for some of the girls, who had never been to that part of the country before, seeing ponies wandering free in the forest and on the roads !

Following our narrow defeat to them in the league (3 goals) Brockenhurst came out with their full squad, determined to make it through to the next round. Worthing were equally determined to play much better than the week before and got off to a good start, scoring first and the game was evenly matched for the first 10 mins, a number of unforced errors on both sides, which then developed into more on Worthing’s part and we ended the first quarter 13 – 7 down.

The second quarter was more competitive with Brockenhurst winning it 9 -6, taking the half time score to 22 – 13. Changes were made in the defence as Caitlin had incurred the wrath of the umpires at both end, somewhat unfairly at times, as Brockenhurst are very good at contact on the blind side of the umpires, we are more obvious – something we need to learn.

Mele started well at GK, and Hannah but Worthing continued to be pulled for footwork and contact and heads started to drop – Brockenhurst won the 3rd quarter 13 -5. With nothing to lose Hannah went to GA, with Caitlin coming back on at GD. The girls were determined to give everything in the last quarter even though the result was beyond them. It was achieved as the score for the final quarter was 8 – 8, our best quarter. The final score was 43 -26 not a disgrace and a much better performance than 8 days before.
