Hallsy's Academy Report - Friday Edition

Another guest reporter for you on this special Friday edition. Academy Captain Luke Jearum takes you through Friday's ECFA National Cup action against Ravenswood School of Kent.

Worthing College Vs Ravenswood School

There were two changes to the side that lost to Chichester on wednesday. Nick Colwell came in for Andy Heward who had work commitments and Thomas Nemeth came in to the middle of the park. This left Matt Dodd, Jack Carey, Iain Haggart and Phil Charman on the bench. Ravenswood started better, they were first to the ball, and worthing were giving them too much time. This led them to stringing a few passes together and having more of the ball early on. Worthing then came in to the game, with the return of form for Ali Giammatei. The versatile left back made some crucial tackles which then enabled him to run at ravens wood, releasing Sam Mannings. Manning then beat a couple of defenders and fired a shot over the bar. Another chance came Worthings way when Jordan Clark hit a free kick just over the bar after a good move involving Thomas Nemeth, Jordan Clark and Alex Staines. Mid way through the half, Ravens wood scored against the run of play, with a long punt from their keeper, which released the ravenswood number 9 who finished from a tight angle. Worthing continued to play some good football and won a couple of corners in quick concession. One of these lead to a goal with Jearum making it 1-1 on the stroke of half time.

Worthing started the second half brightly, playing higher up the pitch causing Ravens wood lots of problems.Worthings defence was very solid, with Nick Colwell "opening a can of Nick" on more than one occasion. Worthing were playing with a lot of confidence, getting the ball to the wide men, Standing and Mannings. Stains saw a good effort saved after he flicked the ball up and volleyed from the edge of the box. Jack Boxy also saw a volley go wide after good work from Ben Standing. At 1-1 Fernandez made a great save at the other end to keep worthing in the game. Ravens wood started to tire with Worthings fitness giving them a big advantage. Worthing continued to pile on the pressure, creating more chances but werent able to convert any. George "Glen" Dowell broke in to the penalty area and should of had a penalty after he was brought down. It was looking like "one of those days". With five minutes left Dowell went on another of his weaving runs beating the ranvens wood defenders getting to the by line, he then pulled the ball back to Jearum who tapped in from 5 yards. 2-1. Two Minutes later Worthing were safely through to the next round, when Clark released Mannings down the left who then crossed the ball for the substitute Charman who finished cooly with his head. 3-1. Next up Cirencester in the last 16 on wednesday.
