basketball match report 20/1/10

Worthing V Varndean

having beaten Varndean once already we knew we had to come in & take care of business from the opening tip
we won the tip & got straight to work. Ian Marshall opened the scoring & we were away. scores from Tom Wyatt & Louis Harris kept us rolling & we got away from our opponent outscoring them 17-8 in the 1st quarter!
as the 2nd quarter started we made some changes & ran the bench. everybody contributed well & our defence was sparked by Lucy Uncles & Mutalib 'MIMO' Habib forcing Varndean into turnovers & missed shots! a great score & a foul shot from Ollie Hunt finished the score & going into halftime we led 42-17 ( we outscored Varndean 25-9 in the period )
the game was in the bag as we were playing well together so we just had to finish strong & stay focused to close it out.
as the 3rd quarter started Tom Wyatt went on a scoring run of his own netting the first 7 points of the period! followed by a Louis Harris 3 pointer from deep! again we freely substituted & again saw great contributions from our bench! we had played some awesome 'D' & held Varndean to only 6 points in the 3rd, scoring 22 points ourselves! we had a convincing 64-23 lead heading to the final stanza!
i changed the whole line up going into the 4th to give our reserves some much needed court time. Varndean kept playing hard & scored the first 6 points of the 4th! our guys rallied & came back fighting showing great character & team work with some great scores from Tanaka Munjeri Varndean had outscored us in the 4th quarter 22-13 but the game had been in the cooler before the final 10 minutes a great all round performance from worthing securing the 77-45 win!
