Netball Worthing 1 30 Brockenhurst 34

This was a game we were looking forward to , having been beaten by Brockenhurst in the BCS Regional Final last Tuesday, now was the opportunity to put the record straight.

The girls had been working in training on passing a strong fast ball and moving into space, initially we started well taking a 3-0 lead. Brock were very strong in all areas of the court and didn’t let an early lead from Worthing upset them. They intercepted well and scored off the majority of their chances. We struggled to feed the attack and ended the first quarter 6-10 down.

The second quarter started poorly and we were struggling in all areas of the court, passing was not slick, and heads dropped a little. The quarter ended 12 -21

Changes were made at half time with Caitlin Kay coming on at GD and Emma Mountfield at GA. This galvanized the team and the third quarter was about the netball we wanted to play. Brockenhurst were rocked, shots being missed and discipline gone. The third quarter ended 23-28. The girls were now very upbeat and went out determined to win. The game continued goal for goal with Worthing unable to break the deficit. Brockenhurst won by 4.

An excellent second half performance – play like that at the Nationals tomorrow and we have more than a fighting change. Small things will make the difference – concentrate on your own game and not that of your opponents, don’t think about the things you cannot control.

Man of the Match – Bryony Short – Never shirked a challenge – never dropped her head.
