Women's Football match report

SEEVIC 3-5 Worthing

Worthing travelled to SEEVIC with both team having a 100% record. After a poor start from both side and the ball being given away sloppily in the middle of midfield on a number of occasions, Worthing took the lead with after a moment of quality by Chloe Debaes when she beat the defender got a shot away which the SEEVIC keeper could  only parry into the path of the unmarked Danielle Lane. 1-0 Worthing. Worthing continued to press forward and create chances. SEEVIC still looked dangerous on the counter with their number 10 causing problems at the back. Lauren Binfield making a very impressive save from a corner in this period. Another SEEVIC break away down the right brought the equaliser as their forward cut in and smashed the ball into the bottom corner leaving Binfield with no chance. 1-1. Back came Worthing with a number of corners in a row and a number of efforts on the SEEVIC goal. After a prolonged period of pressure Worthing finally got the goal they deserved from another corner to the back post Which Megan Priest headed home from 3 yards out. 2-1 Worthing. More sloppy defending allowed SEEVIC to get back into the game for a second time this time on the left and the ball was played along the 6 yard line for a simple tap in at the far post. 2-2. In the dying minutes of the half Worthing took the lead they deserved at half time with another corner to the back post for again Megan Priest to nod home. 3-2 Worthing Half Time.

After the change around the game took much the same pattern with Worthing controlling the game and SEEVIC looking dangerous on the break. For the third time in the game SEEVIC brought themselves level with a well taken goal after the forward cut in from the left and fired the ball past Binfield. This signalled SEEVIC’s best period of the game when they took control for 25 minutes. They were winning every 1st and 2nd ball but were never creating any real chances. With 15 minutes left and against the run of play Chloe Debaes put Worthing ahead with a great goal beating two defenders before firing the ball into the top corner. 4-3 Worthing. This seemed to deflate SEEVIC allowing Worthing to once again take control and put the game beyond the reach of SEEVIC after great work from Vicki Cornelius down the right and a very good cross led to Gemma Stanley putting the ball in at the far post to kill the game off 5-3 to Worthing.

Player of the match: Megan Priest for marking SEEVIC’s best player out of the game and scoring 2 goals herself from centre back.
