Report:
After a motivating team talk from the captain, the game started off on a high with Worthing breaking the deadlock in just under 10 minutes. With a goal from jack Symons which all started from a great bit of individual play from Ben Chipperfield in defence. Collyers then reacted with a lucky break a great save from Connor but was unlucky not to stop the rebound. Worthing kept there heads high and proceeded to give 100% commitment into the game this paid off with a well worked bit of team play finished by Alex Mason slotting it into the net. The game proceeded with end to end action but a miss communication in defence left a man unmarked who managed to equalise for Collyers. After a break and a talk the team setup ready and motivated to win. Unfortunately a Collyers break on the goal managed to make the score line 3:2 with one of the flukiest goals ever. But Worthing kept on fighting and it paid of with an excellent bit of individual talent which saw Scott Richardson make his way though players and slot the ball past the keeper to make it 3 all. Coming into the last 5 minutes of the game and Worthing knew they had left it late but they were still looking for the win. A great bit of team play found Worthing winning a penalty corner. We knew that this was the best chance we would get to win the game. A perfectly injected ball by the captain and excellent and excellent stick work and skill at the top of the Dee by Luke Helmer left it on a plate for Charlotte White to tap it home and make it 4:3. Worthing stayed calm and played keep ball for the remaining couple of minutes to run down. Overall am very impressed with the team’s first performance and hopefully the beginning of much success.
